It is with both regret and joy that I write to you today.
I am deeply saddened to advise that ACT Skills – and associated sites including actforbeginners.com – will no longer be active in providing workshops, online training and resources.
It has been just under 7 months since my gorgeous daughter was born. Since her arrival I have been juggling my values and trying to sort out what’s most important. Its taken a few months (surprisingly) but after much thinking, juggling and struggling I have realised my wife and daughter come first in my life.
I have thought about ACT’s famous question: “What do you want your life to be about?”.
My answer: To focus more on family has now come to me clearly.
I want to be available (be home more), I want to be present and involved (see my daughter grow up), I want to connect and build memories with my wife (see our daughter sit up, crawl, walk, talk and share all those beautiful milestones)… there is so much I want to be home for.
Unfortunately, over the last 18 months my commitments with creating ACT Skills has been much greater than initially anticipated and I have increasingly been away from home (trainings around Australia and other ongoing time requirements). With this is mind, I am choosing to step away from ACT Skills.
This has been a very difficult decision for me as acceptance and commitment therapy is also dear to my heart.
A final final thought:
I make this decision with ACT in mind. I commit to being available for my family while holding the discomfort of ending ACT Skills. In doing so I will live in line with my values and know that even though this is difficult for me right now, I will see my daughter grow up and share the experience with my beautiful wife.
Thank you again for your support, encouragement and positive feedback over the past 18 months – what an amazing journey its been.
